TUAPEKA MOUTH ANNUAL RACES AND SPORTS.

The Tuapeka Mouth Races and Sports came off with their usual success on the 27th nit. The weather was not so propitious as it might have been, but we have got so accustomed of late to boisterous winds and slight showers of rain and hail, that we consider our two days were not so bad. The following is a report of the races and sports : — ' District Hack Race. — Ist, Garryowph ; 2nd, Backbiter. Maori, Bones, and Bessy also ran.

- rublicaus' Handicap, — lot, Backbiter ; 2nd, Maggie. Maori and Bessy also ran. Miners' Purse.— lst, Tony; 2nd, Maori. Bones and Magsfie also ran.

Troltin-' Match.— lst, Miss O'Shannessy ; 2nd, Byeball. Black Bess and Duchess also ran.

SPOUTS

Foot Race, 100 yards.— lst, Chapman ; 2nd, Davidson.

Running "Hop, Step, and Jump. — Ist, Chapman ; 2nd. Davidson. Mile Race. — Ist, Tyson; 2nd, Boland, A^aulting, — Ist, Davidson.

Runniug High Leap. — Ist, Jos(-ph Huffhes, Wheelbarrow Race. — Ist, Tvson. Sack R;ice. — sit, Davidson. Three-legged Race. — Ist, Tyson and Brady, Pig Race.— lst, Bolarid.

Tilting. — Catnpron and Hughes.

After paying all expenses, there is a considerable surplus, which is- something strange for Tuapeka Mouth, but it shows when things n.re properly conducted they are aWay? satisfactorily done, The committee have resolved to retain the money in hand for the next Christmas sports.
