EXPLANATION

Snt, — As it is currently reported (and some blame might be attached to me) that I was in my house on the night when Mrs. Cousins met her death, I have to inform tbe public that I was on that night at the Blue Spur, where I am working, and further, I have to state that any one who knows me and my wife would exonerate both of us from showing a want of Christian feeling to any one. — I am. <s.c, John Joyce.
As I was unknowingly and ignorantly the cause of giving rise to the rumour, (believing at the time I was correct,) I have now to state that I was wrong. I fully endorse the statement in Mr. Joyce's letter, as more humane or better neighbours than Mr. and Mrs. Joyce I never had, aud I have had many in my pilgrimage. — I am. &c,
