MOA FLAT ANNUAL EACES.
On New Tear's Day this lively little meeting celebrated its second birthday and proved even a greater success than the most sanguine could have expected. In spite of the counter-attrac-tion offered by the opening of Hercules Race a large number, probably not less than 200 persons, assembled on the course. Unfortunately the faix sex bore but a small proportion to the males, but as tho stewards were ungallant enough to neglect providing music for their entertainment their absence was less to be deplored. Mr. Brazil had a booth on tbe ground ; nor did tho numerous local teetotallers neglect to patronize Mrs. McPhail's coffee stall. Amusement, in the form of Aunt Sally, was provided by an enterprising capitalist whose generous offer of " three sixpences for one ami sport for nothing " was ext^nsivety taken advantage of. It will be seen from our detailed report of the races appended that some really interesting contests took place. The first race was the Etthick Cup— Value, £10. Two
miles. Carlowe's b g Joe Cope (McKumon) 1 Kyan's b g Renown - - - 2 MageuU, Blackbird, Miss Sul!iv<tn, and Playboy also ran. Before the race Joo Cope- bolted with his rider, and was only pulled up at the Benger Burn. In spiLe of this the old horse took the lead and won hands down. Miss Sullivan, whose style of galloping was much admired, bolted off the course at the Half-mile. Mackinuon's riding was generally praised. . Time, 5 rnin. 30 sec. Shearer's Pubse— Value, £8. Mile heat. Gavin's b g Cannie Willie,, w o - 2 1 Six ran. The first heat wa,3 won by Mullin's b g Little Dick, Ernown being distanced, and Cannie Willie second. TfiOTTiNG Match— -Value, £7. Three miles. Dwyre's h g King - • - - 1 Carlowe's b g Joe Cope - - ' 2 Joe Cope was made a hot favorite for this event, but King walked away from him as he liked, chiefly owing to the old horse breaking every now and again. Modht Bender Stakes — Value, £5. Three-quarter mile heats. Dwyre's b g Playboy - - • 1 1 Mullin's b g Little Dick - - 2 2 Sullivan's b f Miss Sullivan ■ 3 3 Little Dick ran gamely, but Playboy being the fresher took both heats by little more than a neck. Miss Sullivan came up very fast in the last beat, and had it not been for her tendency to bolt would have given the winners considerable trouble. Pont Eace — One mile. i Dodd's b m Kate 1 Mullin's b g Little Dick - - - 2 I Firefly ran third. Sports. 100 Yards Foot Bace— Allan Orr, 1 ; Gordon and Doyle, 2. Time, 10.} sec. Running Hop, Step, and Jump— Doyle, 1 ; Hayes, 2. Putting He»vy Stone— Macdonald, 1 ; Innes. 2. Three Standing Jumps — Hayes, 1 ; Innes, 2. Putting Light Stone -Innes, 1 ; Macdonald, 2. It was getting dark before the programme was completed. In fact it would be advisable in future years to extend it over two days. Great credit is due to the Stewards for the manner they fulfilled their arduous duties. ; nor should such important functionaries as the Judge, Starter, and Clerk of the Course be forgotten. Special mention is merited by Messrs. Todd and Anderson who. voluntarily undertook, an& successfully executed the onerous duty of raising subscriptions.
