r first schedule at a main line to be commenced this year, if the Assembly would give their consent. The Government staled also that they would take immediate steps for holding sessions of the Supreme Court in Law-

rence. In the legislative Council, the Hon. Mr. Waterh >use has introduced a Bill to 'cancel the sale to Clarke of the Moa 'Flat block.

In answer to Mr Brown, the Government staed that immediate construction of the Ttiapeka Railway would probably b ■ considered when the Railway Bill was i.i Committee ; and there was no objection to the sittings of the Supreme Court at I awreuce if funds were provided for the builiiing.

Payment to Provinces Bill passed through committee without material alteration.

Mr. M^rvyu factiously opposed it, and behaved bo ontrageously that the Chair.inaii left the chair, and reported to the Spevktr.

The matter was considered in the House to-day wi h closed doors.

In the Legislative Council the Law Practitioners Act Amendment Bill passed with amendment in the direction of placing Mr. Suiytliies in the same position as before the Act of 186& was p is^ed.

The Gold Mining Districts Bill passed with an important amendment, viz., that the clauses affecting forfeiture, from 38 to 55 inclusive, shall come into operation on the passing of the Act, and shall be applicable to all gqldfields within ' the Colony. This effectually abolishes jumping claims.
