"Wednesday, Oct. 11. APPEALS.
Mr. Bastings objected to the amount of assessment on fourteen sections held by him, at the head of Feel-stieet, valued at L4O. Reduced to L3O.
Messrs. Herbert and Co. objected to the assessment on their store, Ross Place, valued at L 270 per annum. Reduced L 250. Also objected to valuation of sections 3, 5, 16, and 20, block xii , valuation L 2 each. Reduced ss. each. Other sections objected to by them were proportionately reduced.
Mr. Bastings objected to the assessment on shop occupied by Bastings and Arbuckle, rated at £100 — the rent was only £70. Reduced to £80.
Mr. P. Lyng objected to the assessment as being excessive ; he was rated for premises held formerly by Mrs. Evans for £40, premises held by himself in £50, and shop occupied by Mr. Sutherland £50. Reduced £6 each. '
Mr. J. Donovan objected to the-assess-ment on hotel and garden — hotel in £130, and garden in £8. The assessment on hotel was reduced £5, and the garden £2. Also, objected to assessment on houses on Beaumont Hoad, assessed respectively in £23 and £18. Reduced to £20 and £15. Also, objected to assessment on premises held by Mis. Richards and D. M 'Donald, the former £18, and the latter £40. Sustained. Also, sections 7 and 12, block xii., assessed L 3 each. Reduced to L 2 10s each.
Mr. Farrer appeared for the Bank of New South Wales, which was assessed in L2OO. Sustained
Mr. Jamison .appeared for ilie Bank of New Zealand, assessed in same amount. Reduced by L2O.
Mr. Roberts' Royal George Hotel assessed in Ll4O. Reduced to Ll3O. Stables valued at Ll2. Sustained.
Mr. Armstrong objected to the valuation oil the residence (L 45) Whitehavenstreet. Sustained.
Mr. Uren objected to the assessment on the Coal Pit as being excessive (L6O). Sustained.
Mr. A. M'Kinlay objected to the assessment on his dwelling-house (L 65.) Peel-street. Sustained.
Mr. M'Kimmie objected to the assessments on sections 1, 2, and 3, block lv., at L 2 per acre suburban, total, L 23 10s, area lla. 2r. 27p. (below the slaughter yard). Reduced to LI 5.
Mr. Barnett objected to assessment on his premises Peel-street (L 75). Reduced to L7O.
Mr. Bennett objected being rated at L2O. Reduced to Ll7.
Mr. Middlemiss objected to the rate as excessive — shop, L4O ; sustained. Dwel-ling-house, L 23 ; reduced to L 26.
