(From the " Daily Times "J Wellington, August 18th,

The following special telsgram has just been received from Tauranga :— A report is authorised, but is discredited here, that Te Kooti has been reinforced by 50 Uriweras. It has been considered necessary to strengthen the outpost at Whakatane with live Constabulary from here, and five from Opotiki. Captain Simpson has just arrived from Maketu. He reports that all is quiet there. Te Kooti's commissariat is miserable, and he is shifting his camp to obtain food. He is reported to be .at Waihi, and approaching Tauranga, but it is not known which Waihi is meant. Te Hira, the Arawa chief of Te Ngaeorotwraa says that there will be fighting soon. The natives are working splendidly beyond JRotoaua.

The Government contradict the report as to Te Kooti threatening the settlement. August 20th. A trial of a new boat-lowering .apparatus, invented by Mr. Douglas, of Dunedin, took place yesterday in the presence of the officers of H.M.S. Bisilisk, and was perfectly successful. The invention is to be patented. August 21st. The publication of Hansard is temporarily suspended, owing to the compositors having struck for Is 6d a thousand. They are now getting Is 2d, and were offered, but refused, Is sd.

Auckland, August 16th, via WANGiifui, August 20th. A. large quantity of specimens lias been obtained from the Caledonian claim, and it is expected the next crushing will be a rich one. Shares in the Central Italy claim have advanced to £3 ss. Bird, of the Circus Company, fell last night from the trapezo, while executing a flying leap. He was severely hurt, and narrowly escaped being killed. August 17th, via Napj bk, August 20th. It is reported that Mr. Webb, the mail contractor, and Rlr. Brogden, the railway contractor, are likely to visit New Zealand shortly. The share market is dull. Caledonians are £170.
