COAL CREEK, TEVIOT.

(From a Correspondent.)

A public meeting was held in the Wesleyan Church, Coal Creek Flat, on Tuesday evening,' June 7th, to take steps in order to have a side school established on Goal Creek Flat. Mr. M. E. Manuel presided, and stated the object of the meeting. He read some correspondence which had taken place between himself and the secretary of the Education Board, in reference to the matter. Several gentlemen, fathers of families, residing on Coal Creek Flat, spoke of the advantages which a] side school would confer on their children, who are unable to attend the Roxburgh School, in consequence of j the bad roads and the distance, which, ia four uaileß from Coal Creek Flat. A few of the largest children attend during the summer months, bat they j forget nearly all they have learned in the winter, when they are compelled to stop at home. It was unanimously agreed that a memorial, stating the wishes of the inhabitants for establishment of a side aohool, should be pre^ pared, signed, and- immediateiy, gmt to the Education Board of OtagoTThe following gentlemen were elected as .a committee to carry out the wishes of the meeting:- -Messrs. John Tamblyn, Matthew .Elliott, Thomas Qornish, Robert Ayling, Henry Toms, Richard Bennett, Philip Broad, John Mavtin, Henry Williams', Alex, Campbell, and M. E. Manuel,
