London, April 22" The wool sales were largely attended ; competition animated ; prices for Australian, to Id. higher. There is an advance on greasy descriptions at most markets. New Zealand 164 bales. Third series commence in Juue 22. Tallow, little doing. £707,000 of the New Zealand Loan taken up at and above 96 ; £492,000 at and above 95. New South Wales Loan, £1,630,700 tendered for. Application at £98 10s, received for two-thirds above that limit. Allotment in full.
Quotations — New Zealand Loan and Mercantile, three-eighths to n'veeighths premium. Trust and Loan, one and three-eighths to one and fiveeighths. Otago and Southland Investment, from quai'ter discount to quarter premium. Money market easy. Bank to of New Zealand sixteen and a quarter sixteen and a half. Closing quotations, New Zealand sixes, 108 J to 101^- ; fives, 97£ to 98i Flax, 300 bales "'offered, old parcels, low quality and low prices accepted. Holders of good samples firm. L and S parcel realised £34. Large arrivals by the Countess and William Davie are expected to depress prices. San Francisco wheat is high ; no shipments. Flour, best samples, 8 dols. to 8 dols. 25 cents. The wool market is inflated ; 25 cents, to 33 cents, for common.
