BLUE SPUR.

(From our own Correspondent.)

On Saturday evening last there was a public meeting held in the schoolhouse tor the purpose of nominating a fit and proper person to represent the interests of the mining community in the approaching Conference. After considerable cU:lay Mr. M'Leliand was voted to the ohair, who stated the object for which they had met, and said that, as the evening was far advanced, they had better bring their men forward. 'Therefore, Messrs. T. F. Morris, H. C. Clayton, John Cormack, James Kepple, and others of note in this community, all good men and true for the occasion, tit and proper to represent the mining interest, were proposed. All the names, however, were withdrawn, except Messrs. Clayton and Keppel. The Chairman having called for a show of hands, there were twenty-eight held up for Mr. Clayton and -two for Mr. Keppel (the mover and seconder). The Chairman then declared that Mr Clayton was duly chosen to represent the district ; and a strong committee was appointed to conduct his election. Mr. Clayton's friends speak hopefully of his candidature, affirming that he is both a miner and a gentleman, and will do us honour as the representative of this district. On Monday evening the committee and friends of th§ Presbyterian Church met to receive a report from the collectors appointed at a former meeting. There was a full attendance. Mr. M'Lelland took the chair, and stated that he had to apologise for the absence of Dr. Copland, who had been called to go to the funeral of the Rev. Mr. Uric, of Tapanui. Minutes of former meeting were read and confirmed. The lists having been examined, they were found to amount to over Ll6O. It was decided to go on with the building of the church at once, and to pall for tenders. The plan of the Wesleyan Church was adopted, the committee considering that they coull not get a better, only the proposed Presbyterian Church will bs four feet longer. Mr. A, Cormack was ordered to make out a specification, and to have it prepared by Thursday evening. A Building Committee was appointed, to consist of Alessi's. French, Curreigh, J. Cormack, W. Livingston, and James Campbell.
