THE MITHER'S LAMENT.

Thou art gane I but nae shadow o'erclouded thy brovp — In the land o' the angels thou'rt wanderin' now. But though thou art happier whaur thou art gane, I weep when I tbink o' thee, bonnie ■wee waen ! And aft when I stray -whaur the wild flowers wave, That sweetly encircle thy cauld little grave, I sit doon an' greet, wi' my head on my knee, For ilka wee floweret reminds me o' thee ! A bonnier flower never bloomed on this earth, For Nature ne'er gave to a lovelier birth ; But, alas, thou art withered ! that grim tyrant, Death, Hath breathed o'er thy young life bis pestilent breath. ! And aft when I'm sittiu' Eae sad and al.ine, I canna but think o1o 1 the days that are g«ne, "When thou wert beside me, to lighten my toil, And cheer me alang wi' thy innocent smile. And when the dark shades o' the evenin' draw near, In fancy thy sweet merry laugh I can hear ; And tenderly stoopin', wi' mitherly care, I push back the locks o' thy bright sunny hair To imprint a sweet kiss on thy white snowy bioo, That's lyin' sac still on thy cauld pillow noo. But mem'ry returns wi' its burden o' care— I look lound again, but there's naebody there ! Wi' a Eair heart, ■which nane but a niither can feel, I Baw thee ta'en hame to the " land o* the leal." But a day will soon come when the parted shall mcct — To be sever'd nae mair— at the Saviour's feet. And when the day comes when we baith meet again, I hope thou wilt ken thy poor inither again !
