MAGGIE'S GRAVE.

M. F. W., obit. May 5, 1868.

Ye flowers that clothe this sacred plot of earth,

Break forth and flourish in perennial bloom ; Ye gentle zephyrs carol forth her worth.

And sing thy dirges o'er my Maggie's tomb. "Weep, dewy eve, a sympathising tear : The marble majesty of death is here. How soft her slumber, sweetly resting here :

A calm seems stealing o'er her lowly bed ;

Methinks my lov'd one's spirit hovers near,

And softiy breathes a blessing on my head, And seeks to soothe my soul with tender love, And longs to waft me to her home above. O God, to me sustaining strength impart : Whom Thou hast chastened, Thou canst also

save; O hear me, while I pour my stricken heart

In supplications o'er my Maggie's grave. O prove to me a Comforter indeed, And be my refuge in this hour of need. What sweet nepenthe to my weary soul

To know she sees her Saviour's face of love : To think her spirit now has reached its goal,

And joins the singers round the Throne above. Sleep on, deav one, till He shall break the spell ; And now, my love, my darling wife, faiewell ! Yet not farewell ! 'tis but a brief adieu : For soon* tli is earthly path I shall have trod, And then, my d&rling, I shall slumber too, And share thy couch beneath the dewy sod. O blessed thought ! when thee again I meet, 'Twill be in Heaven, and at the Saviour's feet. January, 1871. Q-
