TUAPEKA. MOUTH SCHOOL EXAMINATION REPORT.

The first examination in connection this school took place on Thursday, 22nd December, in the presence of a pumber of the parents and members of pommittee, who appeared to take a great interest in the proceedings. The Rev. Mr. Menzies, from Lawrence, was present, and assisted the teacher, Mr. A. B. Msftthews, in the examination of the children in the various branches of education ; and at the close, examined £hem in Scripture History, expressing his satisfaction with the proficiency of the scholars during the short time +he pchool had been in existence, viz., seven months, as.d hoped that they would continue as they ' had begun during the next year, as he had no doubt that under the tuition of Mr. Matthews, they would make a good show next (examination. Prizes wpve awarded to Mary Ann North, Ann Sarah North, Mary Ann Dawson, Mary Ann Anderson, Agnes Anderson, Alexander J. Brown, Chas. W. Anderson, Bobei-tson Brovvn, Wm. O. Dawson, John Roscop, Wm. A. Taylor, and Joseph Matthews. The (committee kindly supplying the books. Number of children on the book at present, 21.

; A. children's tea meeting followed in the evening, provided by public subscription collected by the children. A gum of £$ lQs being available for this purpose, the teacher erected a swing and purchased additional books with ihe balance of the money, which will (Contribute much to the enjoyment of $he children in future. After giving three cheers for the committee who supplied the books and for those who contributed to the tea and swing fund, the children separated, well pleased with the first examination day at Tuapeka Mputh.

On t^e same evening, at § o'clock, Jbhe Rev. Mr. Menzies gave an able aud jnufcruetive lecture on John Bimyan, illustrated by magic lantern views. The lecture was veil received. The proceeds gp £q the school fund, which amounted to .about £2 10s. '
