SABBATH DESECRATION.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sur, — Sum of our leeding men of bizzness has taken a step in the rite direcshun in trying to put a stop to Sunday tradeing. They oppened their plasea on Sunday the eleventh, so as to try the question. They, as a matter of coarse, were sumonned, and fined ss. each, with costs of court. They pleeded that they had too do it in self-defence, as there was hother storekeepers who served on that day Now, lam glad to see that sum of them has changed their views in regard to the propriety (I wont say lawfulness) of muney-grubbing ou that day, fur it does not take the holdest inabitant too remember the time wen that used to be the busiest day with sura of them. I think if they wear really anxious too put a stop to it, they wood use their hinfluence, which is not small, with the outside storekeepers; as it is, it looks like a nise too drive the traid to them on that day. The benefit of the profits wood of course be thankfully received on Monday mornings— for we is honorable men. I think the attention of the poleec shood be drawn to some of the said outside stores, for it is not all dry g'-ods that is sold to customers on that day.— l am, yours, &c, Mtra. Waipori, September 16th, 1870.
