OUR ROAD MENDERS.
(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sir, — Travelling frequently on the road between Lawrence and the Blue Spur, I notice that some evil disposed persons have been covering the ruts (many of them deep and dangerous) with flax, and then lightly sprinkling the surface with mud, for the purpose, I suppose, of entrapping and sticking-up xinwary drays. I supposed the persons carried on this malicious act at night, but have since been credibly informed that they have been seen in the day time. I wish to ask what are the police about? — I am, &c, Viator. P.S. — Since writing the above I have been informed that it is an idea of mending a road conceived in the brain of an escaped lunatic ; if so, I still must call the attention of the police to it. — V.
