THE BREAD QUESTION.

(To tlie Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Deer'Sur, — A great desiderhatum at last, which is the fall of bred to 9d. We 'aye halways 'ad to pay from Is. to Is. 3d. for a 41b. lofe, and that at no time nune of the best. It seems vvery strange that it shood cum douu now carrage is £4 a tun ; wen it wear only 375. 6d., we 'ad to pay Is., and at that time their wus more peeple hear, and not so scatered as they are now. I do nut think it can pay 2 bakers — there is only room fur one at that prise ; if such is the case, I've no dout that Missers. C. and Co., with there tisual generosity, will make way fur the vvidder off the late Mr. Knight, ad she lias only that to depend, on fur the s^port of herself and 2 young boys. Their ia sum strange reports going the rounds in konection with the fall, wich I wood advise the peeple to bee kareful in receiving, fur hinterested partys are liabel to hoxagerate, to lead them astray. Watever the cause is fur the fall, the result is in the hands of ourselves. Let ua see to our duty, & give the widder & horphans sufficint suport, so that they will be abel to live amongst vs — fur Mrs. Knight has the name, and deservedly too, of beeing a honest, perseverin, and 'oinely old lady. She has had a hard strugle too keep herself and sons, and has always managed to send them to skool ; so by taken bred from her, we enable her to live.

What a change 'as enm hover this herebefore expensive plase. We 'aye now cheep meet, cheep pervissions^ff which more anon ; and Aast, though lyJfc leesfc, cheep bred. Oh I wat a pitty noblera has rised ; wont sum of our henterprising bublicans Btep in and bring 'em down too 3d. again ? It only wants that to make this a perf eck pair-a-dice. — Yoors, truly, Mite.
