TUAPEKA MOUTH.
(From our own Correspondent). Mr. Matthews preached in the schoolhouse on Sunday. The attendance was not so large as might have been expected, probably owing to. the people not having notice. He intimated there would be divine service once a fortnight, at halfpast one. Possibly if he had said halfpast two, there would be a larger attendance. A notice is posted at Mr. Taylor's store, calling a meeting of tbe inhabitants on the 4th inst., to memorialise the Government in favour of a weekly mail between Lawrence and Tnapeka Mouth. It is too, bad that a community so large as this should have to depend on casual travellers to both send and receive their letters and papers. " The gold (if nothing else) which is taken out of the lower Tuapeka, where- every claim is in full working , order and doing well, ought to justify — in fact, ought to compel — the Government to give us a weekly maff. Another reason is that most of the letters that are brought to the Mouth we require to pay a sixpence for. Ido not think there is another district, in Otay;o where the inhabitants can support a school that there is not a postal service.
