ROAd TO THE BUSH AND TUAPEKA MOUTH.

Sir,— l heor that the inhabitants of this place are now, becoming alive to the importance of the item of carriage in the price of goods from Dunedin ;, they are at length about to petitkxh the Government to complete the line of. road from Tuapeka Mouth to Docherty's HotelJ originally commenced, and partially constructed by Major Richardson seven years ago when the Tuapeka steamer was put on the Clutha River, and considering that that line of road is nearly level and wants but little labour to make it adApted for ordinary traffic, it is surprising that the people of the Tuapeka goldfields have overlooked this matter so king, considering the amount of money they have contributed to the revenue of the province. Besides getting goods at lower, rates from Dunedin, it is the only line of road to the bush where firewood can in future be obtained, and also it' would make a great reduction in prices of sawn timber and timber for mining purposes, which wiH be required for carrying a supply of water on the adjoining goldfields. Trusting that the promoters of the petition will use dispatch in order to present it to the Council during the present session when we have a Government favourable to the development of the goldfields. — I am, &c. , MiSer.
