MOA FLAT SCHOOL.
PUBLIC MEETING. A public meeting took place in the Schoolhouse, Moa Flat, on Saturday, the 30th ult., to consider the best means of putting the schoolroom in better repair. On account of the inclemency of the weather the attendance was much smaller than it would otherwise have been. Mr. Smith was voted to the chair, and, after stating the business of the meeting, called upon Mr. Patrick, the secretary, to read a letter which had been received from Mr. Hislop, oftering the sum of £24 to assist in repairing the schoolhouse if the Committee would raise the sum of £12. Mi*. Patrick stated he was happy to -inform the meeting that the sum of £20 8s had been collected for the object in view, besides £2 which had been promised, so that with the grant of pound for pound given by the Education Board they had the sum of £44 16s. Mr. Rentoul called upon Mr. Smith to give the meeting some idea of what the requirements of the school were, and this Mr. Smith did at considerable length ; after which, Mr. James Kitto proposed, and Mr. Rentoul seconded, " That the partition be taken down, as Mr. Smith had now a separate dAvelling house, and that the lining be extended all over the walls, and the ceiling be papered ; also, that new desks, blackboard, and teacher's desk and stool be obtained." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Patrick "That the schoolhouse be painted," seconded by Mr. M'Leod. Carried. Proposed by Mr. M'Leod "That a stove be got for the school," seconded by Mr. James Kitto, and carried. Proposed by Mr. Patrick "That a boat be got for the use of the school, to cross the children from the othor side of the river." Seconded by Mr. M'Leod and carried. A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Mr. Patrick for the great care he had taken- in the interests of the school. After the usual vote of thanks to the chair, the meeting broke up.
