BLUE SPUR ABSURDITIES.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Tivies).

Sir, — The work of the past has been all destruction in several of the water* races, and the work for the future will bet all construction. Your readers, I have : no doubt, will natiirally think tho Blue Spur cement the richest ever discovered^ in the annals of gold mining. Best and: party have entered an action for damages to the amount of £700 for the absurd loss of 41 cubic yards of shingle beach drift,, commonly called cement. That is the exact measurement as given by the Sui - veyor. The hearing of the case comes off at the next sitting of the District Court, before Justice Grey. I am at a loss to. know upon what rule of arithmetic theiv calculations are made. I can well understand that if a cubic yard will producj half a pennyweight of the precious metal,. 41 cubic yards will produce 20£ dwts., or a net value of £3 16s. 10|d. ; but the puzzle is this : if 41 yards produce £3 16s. 10|d., what will one acre, one rood, and chirty-six perches produce, whilehalf of said area has been tested and proved not to be payable ? One of the. shareholders in Best and party's claim stated in the Warden's Court that the ground had not paid them £2 per week, and the claim had been worked over fouryears. How they can value it at £700, tha amount they now claim in the District Court, is a question which remains for them to show. I for one can assureyour readers that it is not all gold that glitters at the Blue Spur, and many Dun-, eclin speculators can testify to the truth of my statement. Should any of those who previously gave evidence be sum-, moned on this occasion, it is to be hoped' they will notice the contrast between their evidence given in the Warden'sCourt in July last, and that given on the-. 17th March. — I am, &c, Blue Spurian.
