J. Overend (firewood, &c), £14 11s ; J. C. Arbuckle, £1. Referred to Finance Committee. Mr Keen gave the following notice of motion for next meeting: — "That another room be added to the Surgeon's residence." The Doctor, like many more, had been obeying the Divine command by increasing and multiplying, and he (Mr Keen) had been induced to give notice of a motion of this descriptions knowing that it was extremely necessary. The Surgeon's residence contained a number of rooms, but they were all very small excepting one. In order to improve the appearance of the building another wing would require to be added ; but he would suggest that instead of that a room be added to the back of the house,- which wo\ild not detract from the appearance of the building, and would meet tke emergency. Mr Smith made an explanation with regard to the remarks made by him at the last meeting relative to Mr M'Clusky's subscription lists. The local paper, he said, had given a strange explanation of the affair. On that occasion, it wo\ild be remembered by those present, he begged the committee not to go into the matter until/ Ir M'Clusky returned from Dunedin, as he would no doubt be able to give a full account of the lists in question. The item entered to Mr M'Clusky's credit under " Sundries," in the '68 pamphlet, was unsatisfactory to the public. M'Clusky remarked that having been called unavoidably to town, he was unable to attend the last monthly meeting, and hence the cause of this unpleasant affair. He gave his list for 1868 to the late secretary, Mr Richards, which list ought to be in the possession of the Secretary. On his return from Dunedin, although late, he immediately took steps to get his '69 list published with others, which had been done. Mr Smith again referred to the item "sundrj.es" being unsatisfactory to the public. He knew of others whose lists did not appear. On being queried, Mr. Smith declined to mention their names. Mr M'Clusky asked the Secretary if Mr Richards had handed him all the lists for 1868. Mr Hayes replied that he handed him » lot of old papers. TENDERS. The tender box was then opened. Milk.— D. M 'Alpine, 3d per quart ; P. Robertson, 5d per quart. Lowest accepted. Bread.— G. Clark, 8d per 41b. loaf ;J. Harris, 8d per do. Mr Clark's accepted, being the last who supplied the Hospital. Interments. — Win. Mears, £2. Accepted, being the only tender. Firewood and Lignite. -J. Overend, £2 4s per cord ; coals, 19s per ton. Wm. Smith, firewood, £2 3s 9d per cord. Mr Overend's accepted. Meat. — There were two tenders for meat, one from R. M'Kimmie and one from Jas. Smith. Mr Smith's was lower jn every kind of meat but mutton ; it was therefore accepted. Groceries. — There were three tenders for groceries — viz., J. Fyffe & Co.", James Harris, and Herbert & Co. Considerable difficulty was experienced by the committee in deciding upon these tenders. Taking the leading articles, viz., brandy, tea, sugar, porter, candles, butter, and oatmeal, Harris and Herbert & Co. had the advantage over Fyffe & Co,, but again the latter were very much lower than either of the two others in kerosene, arrowroot, etc. They were ultimately decided by vote, when the show of hands stood as follows •— Herbert & Co,, 5 ; Harris, 4 ; Fyffe & Co., 4. Messrs Herbert & Co. were thus elected to supply groceries for the current quarter. There being no other business, the meeting adjourned.
