TAPANUI RACES.

(To the Editor of the T*uapeka Times.} Sir, — About the beginning of ias' month a meeting was held here, and committee appointed to collect subacrij tions for races to be held at Tapanui, c the last day of December, 1869, and th Ist day of January, 1870. Signatures i the amount of L4O were soon given ii but since, there has been nothing don and owing to the short time left it pretty clear we are to have no racing th season at Tapanui. Now, lam fond of bit of sport, and what little money T m? have to spend during the holidays will g where there is a little more enterprise The course here, I may add, is in a verj bad condition, and would require at leasi L2O to put it in order sufficient to allow a horse galloping along it. Altogether, I see no chance of our having races, an omission arising just from the want of i few sporting men in this district. } notice that other places are better off, am hope Tapanui will not always prove the exception.
