Mails close at this office as under :— For Dunedin, via Waitahuna, G-lenore> Tokomairiro, and all offices between Tokomairiro and Dunedin, daily at 8 p.m., Sun« days excepted. For Blue Spur, daily, at 5 p.m. For Wetherstones, daily, at 5 p.m. For Beaumont, Miller's Flat, Teviot Junotion, LongYalley, Manuherikja, Clyde f and offices beyond Clyde, every Tuesday, at 5 p.m. For Pomahaka, Tapanui, S,witeers, aud Nokomai, every Friday, at 5 p.m. The office closes, for sale of stamps, issuo and payment of money orders, registration and delivery of letters, punctually at 5 p»m. The Telegraph Office is open to the publio on week days from 9 am to 5 pan., and on Sundays from 10 to 10/30 a.m., and 5 to 5.30 pjn., -N.& mean time. G. C. CHAPMAN, Acting-Postmaster.
A rather novel donation was made to the Benevolent Asylum, Melbourne, by the Melbourne Meat Preserving Society, in the shape of a hogshead of soup, which the Superintendent states is of excellent flavour. The coup ia not in tins, but is in bulk in the cask, and may be drawn off in any quantitylike beer. The inmates partake of l it" with great gusto, __^j^
