DEVELOPMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka- Times.) Sir, — It is high time for something to be done to develope the natural resources of the district, otherwise times will, if possible, get even duller than they are at present. I think a kind of Scientific Association, in connection with the Otago Institute, would be very useful. It would act as a 'centre for collecting together all the experiences and observations of different individuals, and give an impetus to all kinds of research. Were those gentlemen interested in this matter, and capable of giving an opinion on scientific matters, to hold a meeting and organize such a body, I am sure it would soon become popular. , A small subscription, scientific picnics, lectures, &c, would be found excellent means of supplying the sinews of war, and I have little doubt the society would soon be able to give pecuniary aid to prospectors and experimenters. If all persons interested in this matter were to meet at the Athenaeum on an early evening to talk the matter over, some action might be taken in the matter. — I am, &c, X. Lawrence, September 23rd, 1869.
