RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before H. Basting 3, and A. Stewart, Esqs., J.P.'s.) Saturday, September 25th.

Clark v. Paterson. — Paterson was charged, Ist, with having assaulted plaintiff in Ms hotel, lioss Place, on the evening of Friday ; 2nd, with having broken a glass door in the said hotel ; 3rd, charged by police with not having control over his horses; 4th, charged with being drunk and disorderly; sth, charged by W. Lateward with having assaulted him. The " Police Grazette" was produced to show that Paterson had been guilty of a like offence previously. On all the charges he was found guilty, and fined in the accumulated penalty of £14 135, which amount was paid. J. Power, Paterson's mate, was also Charged with aiding and assisting him, and for assaulting Lateward. Eined in the sum of £3 65., including costs. The Bench administered a severe reprimand to Paterson. Police v. Hardacre. — Hardacre was charged with being drunk and disorderly. Fined ss. and costs. Monday, September 27th. (Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M., and Alex. Stewart, Esq., J.P.) Police v. Helgram.— Helgram was charged with being drunk and disorderly. Pleaded guilty, and fined 10s. and costs. G-ibb v. Vause.— Claim, £1. No appearance of defendant. Terdict for amount claimed, with costs. Fitzgerald v. Ah Lum.- — Claim, £4 lOs. No appearance of defendant;

Verdicb for £4-. Immediate execution asked for and granted. . Hewitt v. M'G-regor.— Claim, 12s. Verdict for amount, with costs. Johnston v. Aimers.— Claim, £20. No appearance of defendant. Verdict for amount and costs. Immediate execution asked for, as the defendant was leaving the district. Granted. Friday, October 21st. (Before Horace Bastings', Esq., J.P.) Simon Stephens and Harriet Farrall, were brought before the Bench on a charge of vagrancy, and having no visible means of support, adjourned till to day at 3 o'clock p.m.
