ISLAND BLOCK.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Sir, — I perceive in your issue of the 4th a letter in reference to the Island Block, dated from the Horseshoe Bend. I don't know the writer of the letter in question, still I nave not the least hesitation in saying that he is a cowardly poltroon. The letter was never written by any resident of this place. The object of the writer in dating from here is obvious to many people in the district, and I have no doubt that his

conduct will be generally looked upon with the contempt which sucu a childish proceeding merits. I should not have troubled you on the subject, were it not that this is not the first time upon which some bearded baby has made your journal the means of conveying erroneous impressions in reftu'ent'G to a certain letter written some time ago about the Island Block. When next your correspondent interfers in matters of public importance, it is to be hoped that he will do so in a manly stright-forward manner — that is if he knows anything about manliness, which I beg leave to doubt. I have rlready stated that I am satisfied the letter I allude to was not written by any person residing here ; this statement you can, of course, corroborate if you chose. It is to be hoped that for the future you will not permit your journal to be used as a means of conveying erroneous impressions, in order to gralify the feelings of children of mature years. — 1 am, &c.,

W. B. Herseshoe Bend, September Bth.
