W AITAHUNA.
(From our Own Correspondent.) July 22nd, 1569. Monday, 19th inst., the Eeadings in the Assembly E,oom were well attended, over 80 being present. Mr. Mackay occupied the chair — the chief feature was the able manner in which a young lady read, "Ask Mamma." I was uuablo to obtain th& narao • her reading was much appreciated by all. Tho various songs, &c, wcro applauded, and the danco following was entered into with great spirit. On Monday nest we are to have quite a novelty from the Negro sercnaders, and a bumper house is expected on the occasion. Our dranatic corps are rehearsing a new piece, which I understand will come off about tho latter end of next nonth.
Mr. Murray has been selling sheep, retail (alive) at 2s. 6d. per head, and one or two individuals wero fortunate enough to get them at Is. 6d. each. I wonder if squatters prido will lower ■with ■ their mutton. Next season, I hear we shall have mutton for carrying it away. I am afraid, like tho lazy shepherd, if it comes so cheap, we shall want them to bring it to us as well!
