WAITAHUNA.

(From our Oivn Correspondent.)

June 21st, 1869. A Temperance Society has been formed here.

The Readings on Monday, June 21st, were well attended. Mr. Turnbull was chosen chairman. Messrs. Burton and Hickey presided at the •harmonium and violin respectively. The chairman called on Mr. Devonshire, who gave two capital songs. Mr. Turnbullthen read. the affecting parting, scene of Mrs. Woods and Robert O'Hara Burke, of the Burke and Wills exploring expedition in Australia. Mr. Ritson then san« "Mary Jane's intended" and "She danced like a Eairy." Mr. Alfred O'Keefe gave a reading in a style that reminded me of some old home readings, this gentleman is improving very much in his readings. Mr. J. G. Bayliss s^ang " Little Mary's Song," closing the first part. SECOND PABT. Mr. Pennell sang " See the bright sun lights the mountains " very well. Mr. Henry Simon being on a visit to his old friends, obliged and delighted the public in giving in an inimitable manner, "Artemus Ward's interview with Albert Edward Princeof Wales." Mr. Moggarth then -sang " Come under my Plaidee" and a " Man's a man for a' that.' 1 Mr. C. Hickey read, " What is noble." Mr. J. Smith sang in a deep bass voice, " Then up with the Standard of England," being encored gave another very good song, viz., " Sheathe the Sword, Scotland." There was quite a good muster of the fair sex ; the roads having got frozen hard enough to bear, proving that it is only the almost impassable state of the roads that prevents a good attendance to oup most popular Assembly Room.
