THE TOWN OF LAWRENCE.

( Mr. MOUAT moved (in committee) :— «' That an address be presented to His Honour the Superintendent, requesting that he will ba. pleased to reserve, for purposes of public recreation, for the use of the inhabitants of the incorporated Town of Lawrence, being sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 15, and 16, block 14 ; sections 1 to 8, and 10 to 20 inclusive, block 15 ; sections 1 to 14, and 16 to 20 inclusive, block 18 ; together with the whole of block 19, The motion was carried. BLACKS, MOUNT BENGER, AND TUAPEKA

PETITIONS.

Mr. BROWN withdrew the following motion standing in hia name :—": — " That in consideration of the Interim Report No. I'of the Select Committee upon Blacks, I Mount Benger, and Tuapeka Petition, and of the correspondence ap~_^pended, this Council is of opinion that the block set apart for agricultural pnrposes on the east bank of the Glatha to Teviot is entirely unsuitable for the ptuv pose," and moved on the suspension ol

£he Standing Orders, that the Interim 1 Report above alluded to, and the correspondence appended, be referred; t*o the Government for consideration.'

Mr. HAY moved, " That the action of the Government with reference to the proclamation of the 27th of January last, declaring the block of land known' as the Island, in the Mount Benger district, open for application under the Agricultural Lease system ; together with the subsequent action of the Government thereon, be taken into consideration. "

After discussion, the motion was put and negatived-

SCHOOLS ENDOWMENT.

The following motion in reference to the above was carried: — "That an address be presented to His Honour the Superintendent, recommending that a quantity of the pastoral lands of the province, sufficient to produce a revenue of £8,500 for the purposes named, be reserved from sale and set apart as an endowment for the High and Grammar Schools, District Schools, Hospitals, Benevolent Institution, and Lunatic Asylum, as now established in the province of Otago."
