Cause of Houses catching Fire. — We vrere shown the other day an instance of how fires in dwellings may occur. The house we were intp was like many others in this town, without a hearthstone, haying merely a thin sheet of iron plate nailed in the front of the. fireplace. - This irpn had become heated, and not only charred the floor, but actually burned a large hole in it. Had it not been for some one in the house noticing smoke rising through the crevices in the floor, the inmates would have gone to bead without the slightest suspicion of their being any danger; and then during the night the house would have been discovered to be on fire, ajid no one able to account for' the manner in which it happened. The Insurance agents should examine the houses that are insured" and see that they have hearthstones. — " Taranaki Herald."
