BLUE SPUR.

(From our Own Correspondent).

A meeting of the Library Committee was held in the School on Monday evening, Mr. John Cormack in the chair. Messrs. Ledingham (Treasurer), M'Lelland (Secretary), and A. G. Thomson were also present. The new books just received from the Government, amounting to sixty -five volumes, were examined and passed for circulation. The binding and general character of these works give great satisfaction. The Secretary Btated that this addition to the Library made up the number of the books to upwards of 400 volumes, and which necessitated the ordering of another cupboard, the present accommodation being totally inadequate. He has invited a tender — which he laid on the table — by which he found the cost would amount, in round figures, to £4 The Committee accepted the tender. But all this literature and extra cupboard, together with a balance due to the Treasurer, will amount to over £8. The Committee think, therefore, that they have a good claim to come before the public with, seeing that the annual subscription (10s.) is not sufficient to meet all these improvements ; and as the Committee have evinced a desire to provide firstclass works for the reading public, they have every confidence now in recommending the Library, they ought, to have a much larger list of subscribers. It was resolved that the Committee should lake advantage of the j Eev. Mr. Morrison being in the dis- j trict, and invite him to give a lecture on behalf of the Library. It was urged, on behalf of the rev. gentleman, that he gave great satisfaction in the pulpit, and thatj if he would consent, the Committee would be sure of a full house. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Morrison. A statement from the Secretary to the Education Board showed tfeat the Committee had yet books to the value of £2 to receive, and that a ehtpment had arrived per the E. P. Bouverie, and a printed catalogue would be forwarded as soon as possible. Mr. Ponsonby, of the Waipori Water Company, presented the Library with Thomson's " Seasons," for which the Committee record their thanks. If any other of their numerous friends feel disposed to thus augment the Library, there is now an excellent opportunity, and the name of the donor can be inserted in the next new catalogue.
