The Mayor called the attention of the Council to the approaching visit of the Duke of Edinburgh. He thought something should be done, as it was likely His Royal Highness would pass through Lawrence on his way to the Lakes. He thought that, considering the importance of the district, the Government could hardly refuse a grant in aid of the preparation.

It was accordingly agreed the Town Clerk should write to Government, asking for a grant of £100, to be expended in preparing for the reception of the Duke, should he visit Lawrence. The Council then adjourned for a week.
