TAPANUI J.P.'s.

1 (To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sik,— Your Tapanui correspondent of the 20th February was either not present at the meeting held to nominate a gentleman for J.P. for this district, or he feels himself greatly slighted by not being the very identical gontloman proposed. This appears plain to any right-thinking man, from the sarcastical spirit in which he reports upon the results of that meeting, ne states that the show of hands in favour of Mr. Paterson was merely a bit of fun on the, pai't of the gentlemen present. Now, does he really think for one moment that those gentlemen assembled there to act a burlesque, or, like so many children, "for a bit of fun," hold up their hands t I can tell your correspondent this much for his information, that • the' show of hands for Mr. Paterson was in rijhfc good earnest. Your correspondent, to say the least of him, wrote hi.s letter in a very bad sprat ; but I suppose he cxpoct3 afc a meeting like the one reported upon there will oi>ly bo a proposer and a seconder, and then the meeting to say elected, without any controversy or opposition ; or else, what doo3 he mean by saying that "the Tapanui meeting* are made up of a disunited and incongruous class of persons ? " Your correspondent must harbour personal spite against parties, judging from tha large ftmouat of penonal matter iatroducad into Ids report. It would perhaps be far better f or your correspondent, and Tapanui would suffer les3, if he or any other correspondent would leave alone all personal matters, and_ treat public business in a public Bpirit, and for the public good. — Yours, &G., ON?
