SELECT POETRY.
Energizing power, mysterious key, Unfolding regions clad in .mystery, Our moiive influence, magnetic chain, The favour'd despot both o'er heart and brain ! We lovo thy silken bonds, we follow thee^ Blindly Low oft, and yet so willingly ; For thou'rt the life-knot of our every aim, Our ey'iy efiorfc owns thy boundless claim. Voiceless, yet how melodious to the ear, 'Jiiy silent whisper, as it draweth near, And nearer still, until at last it clasp Ajid hand us o'er the object of our grasp. Nature's great password, false alone thou art "When in the keeping of man'sTreach'rous hears; jSilfilment's stamp'd upon creation's law, The model brief, void of all human flaw. • Season of promise ! open the great sea^ And let the universe thy presence feel ! Still undeveloped in thy bosom sleeps Fruition's genuine ; death its harvest reaps ; Awake ! the heraldry of heaven proclaims That of Pandora's ills yet Hope remains.
