The weather on Friday and Saturday was throughout propitious to the Waiporians, and attracted a great number to witness the contests of the two days. The ladies mustered in great strength, and added to the attractiveness of* the seen*- J^ by thair fair faces and ,gay dress. But for one unfortunate contretemps the meeting w-ould have been as pleasant as it was successful — but of that auon. The entries for the howe races, although riot very numerous, made up in quality what they lacked in quantity, and in nearly every instance there was an exciting struggle for the money between the horses placed / first and second. The first day's sport began with MAIDEN PLATE, of 10 soys. Open to all horses that had never won public mpney. Entrance, £1 ; distance, 1$ mile ; weights* lOst. 61b. Cotton's Little Daisy (owner) 1 Weight's Morgan (T. TTright) 2 A very fair start was effected; but Dr. M'Lauchlan's Pet bolted off the course, thereby destroying her chance for th© soys. The other two raced in together — Little Daisy landing the stakes after an exciting struggle . JTAIPORI TOWN PLATE, of 15 soys., opan to all horses. Entrance, 305.; weight, list 71b ; distance, 2 mile*. - - Wright's Hatter (owner) 1 Cotton's Dewdrop * (dwnerj 2 Lady Elizabeth also staite 1, but was soon outpaced — the horse wii ni lg a splendidly contested race by a neck.. HURDLE'TtAGE, of 7 soys. ; over eight' flight of hurdles ; distance, two miles ; welter weights ; entrance, Ids. Kitchener's Black Prince (MTherson) 1 Wright's Morgan (Owner) 2 TROTTING RACE, open to all horses withi» a a radius of ten miles ; for five soys.-; distance, two miles ; catch weights.
