THE LAND QUESTION.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sir,— l wa& astonished to see a gentleman of Mr. Feguson's standing luaking himself so ridiculous in an effusion called a letter last week. It does not say much for his knowledge or experience in agricultural matters, nor for that of hia informant either, when he says thai fifty acres of Smith's or Treweek's runs would support a man. Nobody who ever went over the ground would speak such nonsense as this, and though Mr. Ferguson may be an experienced farmer, he .talks like a new chum. I quite agree with Mr. Robertson in saying that peoplo should bear in mind how the deputation from tho cattle-owners was treated, and not go down to town without having their expenses guaranteed. If they don't take this precaution they will be left in the lurch, just like the cattle-owners' deputation. I think that Mr. Robertson's letter, instead of injuring the league, has helped it on. lam sure any advice coming from such a quarter should be treated with every respect. If tlie whole force of the League was brought to bear to get a complete alteration of the land laws it would receive stronger support than it does, and be in every ' way more worthy of public support. I hope the Committee will get Mr. Robertson to join them, and give the benefit of his experience in obtaining such a measure which I am sure would do good to the Province and to the Colony at large. Yours, &c, . A Member of the League.
