MEETING OF SUBSCRIBERS TO THE WAIPORI PUBLIC LIBRARY.

• , A. pub#c, jneeting of subscribers was held- in Mr. johristone ! 's Commercial Hotel, Waipori, on Wednesday, 30th ; September, for the purpose of electing , a committee of management, and for the transaction of other business in connection with the Library. H. Cable, Esq., occupied the chair. .'• The minutes- of previous meeting having been confirmed, it was proposed by Mr. Dunne, and seconded by Mr. Roberts, " That the correspondence be ■ received. ' '—Carried. •Mr. Cairnes then read the list of subscriptions, the total amount being £M>, £41 of which had been sent to Mr. Hislop, Secretary to the Education .Board. The pro. fern, committee then gave in their resignation, after which Mr. Parrant _,<propose'd, and Mr. Dunne seconded, " That a permanent committee be appointed, consisting of a president,- vice-president, and nine members." — Carried. Mr. Cairnes proposed, and Mr. Roberts seconded, " That Mr. Cable be President. — Carried. ' ' " Mr. M'Cay proposed, and Mr. Ritchie seconded, " That Mr. _ Buchanan be vice-President." — Carried. The following gentlemen were then elected a committee: — Messrs. Cairnos, Favrant,-Ritchie, Dunne, Drummond, M'Laughlan, M'Cay, Lewis, and Caudwell. At the close of tho public meeting the, committee met, when Mr. Cairnes was elected and Dr. M'Laughlan Secretary. It was proposed by Mr. Ritchie, and seconded by Mr. Dunne, "That five form a quorum." Mr. .Farrant proposed, and Mr. Ritchie seconded, "That the President, Treasurer, and Secretary draw up a form of laws to lay before the committee at next meeting ; that the committee meet again on Wednesday, 7th October, at eight p.m., at the Commercial Hotel." ■ At the meeting of committee on the 7th. October, the gentlemen appointed to frame a code of laws laid them ou the. table, when, after some slight alterations had,- been made, it was proposed by Mr. Farrant, and seconded by Mr. M'Cay-, "That the laws be adopted." — Carried. . A. consignment of books selected by Mr! James M'Cay, the invoice of which is to arrive per " Evening Star," and expected daily, was offered to the committee at home prices. The committee thinking the books suitable, and being desirous of purchasing, agreed, on the motion of Mr. Buchalian, seconded by Mr. Dunne," That the necessary funds be raised as soon as possible." . Mr. Farrant proposed, and Mr. Buchanan seconded,' "That the Treasurer, be instructed to procure a stamp, " Waipori Public Library," and press complete," which was carried. Dr.fM'Lauchlan proposed, and Mr. Cable seconded, " That Mr. J. Cox be appointed Librarian." Mr. Farrant proposed, as an amendment, " That Mr. Cox senr. be offered the situation of Librarian." — Seconded by Mr. M'Cay. Mr. Drummond proposed another amendment, to the effect "That the subject be left in abeyance till next meeting." — Seconded by Mr. Dunne, and carried. It was then proposed by Mr. Dunne, and seconded by Mr. Farrant, " That the meeting adjourn for a fortnight." After a vote of thanks to the chair the meeting closed.
