WAITAHUNA CHURCH OF ENGLAND COMMITTEE.

(To tlie Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Sir, -Some time ago, a Church of England ' Committee was appointed in Waitaliuna;to manage the affairs •of jthe Church here ; but since their appointment to office they have never been. seen, or heard of. A rumor was current at one time that Mr.- Martin had seen- them- onee, but if so, there must have been something very terrifying to them' in that gentleman's appearance, for they have never been seen by any one since the occurrence, if it ever did occur. It appears that, shortly after tlieir election to office, they appointed a collector to gather in the subscriptions, and then seem to have thought they had no more to do 7 and have disappeared ever since, at the time the misunderstanding occurred between the Lawrence Church of England Committee and Mr. Martin ; and Aye had every ireasontd" suppose we should have been without a minister in the district for some time. The Committee never made tho least movemeni to ascertain the wishes or feelings of the members of the Church on the niatter, but treate'l the whole subject with the most perfect indifference. Fortunately, Mr. Martin'intends remaining s6nie time longer amongst us. The sarcasm thrown at them by Mr. Bennett, at'the meeting held in Lawrence, failed to move them, for they are very thick skinned. Tiiere are many things of minor importance, but which, are necessary to the well-ordering and carrying out of the church service, which are totally neglected by them, and left to be done by those who have a greater respect, for the Church than they seem to have. There is one gentleman who has to be excepted from: the censure so deservedly merited by the Committee ; and he, poor fellow, has all the work to do that is done, for he gets no assistance but from the members of tho Church, for the Committee are nowhere to be seen when there is any work for them. At present, the afternoon service commences at half-past two, — a time that is felt to be inconvenient by many ; and Mr. Martin has stated publicly thart, if the present time was considered iinsuitable, he was willing to alter it to any time that would suit us ; still, no appearance of the Committee ; and we begin to tliink that, with but one' exception,- a more useless, inert set of imbeciles it would be difficult to find ' oxTteicle - tHe Provincial Council. — I am &C,

One of the Church Membbes. Waitahuna, July 21.
