POSTAL ARRANGEMENTS. Mails from Europe and the Australian colonies are at present forwarded from Melbourne on or about the tenth of each month. Should the English mail not . have arrived by that date, another steamer awaits the arrival of the English [ mail in Ilobson's Bay for a period of ninety-six, hours, and even beyond that ' time for any other time not exceeding a ' like period 'of ninety-six hours, if t authorised by the Postmaster- General or 3 his agent, while the mail steamer which 5 arrives in Melbourne on the 10th, con- ) veys the homeward mails from Port 1 Chalmers on or about the 20th of each 5 month. 3 Mails are made up to Dunedin for f transmission to Australia, Southland, the Northern ports of this Province, and the Northern ports of New Zealand, by every steamer leaving for these ports half an J hour previous to their advertised hour of • departure, due notice of which is given in ) the Dunedin newspapers a day or two f previous. c Private Boxes. f Fees— For the first year or portion of a r year, £2 ; for each succeeding year, £1. i The year commences on the first ! January. The Post Office is open to the public every lawful day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. p Times for Posting Letters. f Letters and newspapers prepaid by p stamps can be posted at the boxes of the ' Chief Post Office and letters only at the 1 receiving houses at any hour of the day fc or night, Sundays included. s Late letters requiring an extra stamp 0 must, be posted at the Chief Post Office, 1 and not at the receiving houses. 3 Registered letters must be presented for registration at least one hour prior to the - time appointed for closing ship mails. Address of Letters. Letters occasionally remain a considert able time in the Post Offices, in conset quence of their being vaguely addressed 1 to Otago, N.Z., and not bearing the y name of the post town in which the per- ; son addressed resides. The address, to c ensure correct and speedy delivery, should always be full, and if for Dunedin, _ the street, &c , should be given as accur rately as possible.
