TUAPEKA RACES.

(To tJie Editor of the Tuapeka Times).

Sir, — Noticing the programme of the Tuapeka Jockey Club Races adverised in your paper, 1 am quite at a loss to understand the conditions of the fourth race — namely, that of the Minei-s' Purse. It reads thus — " All horses to be the bona fide property for two months previous to running." Bona fide property of whom 1 Of a working miner or of any person holding a miners' right 1 There is a vast difference between the two. Which, do the stewards mean 1 If they mean any one possessed of a miner's right such as a shareholder in a claim who perhaps never did a day's mining in his life ; then I say any person, not a miner, by obtaining a miners' right might bring the best horse in the Province to contest the race, and thus exclude the working miner who may be training a horse expressly for this particular race, under the impression that it would be contested by none but the horses of his fellow miners. I consider that the horse entitled to run for the miners' pur3e ought to be the legitimate property of a working miner, and if some explanation of the conditions of this race is not given by the stewards it will give rise to serious disputes on the race day. — I am, sir, yours, &c, Playboy.
