“ MAKE IT £100,” ASKS PRISONER.

ALLEGED BURGLARS ARE CAUGHT IN AUCKLAND. (Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, January 15. Three alleged burglars were caught in the early hours of this morning. Ilarry Collins, aged forty-eight, described as a seaman, and George Charles Waterman, aged thirty-nine, a labourer, were later charged with breaking and entering the gum store of Ravlich and Raod. The police asked that both men be remanded until January 24. “ Air Hunt, I was found on no premises, and I want you to hear the evidence,” said Waterman. A constable was called and gave evidence that he caught Waterman as he emerged from the front door. A sergeant caught Collins. “ Never in your life,” said Waterman. Mr Hunt said he had sufficient evidence to remand the accused on the charge. “Will you give me bail?” requested Waterman. “ Yes, £200,” said the Alagistrate. “Whew! Oh, make it £luo. X can't get £200.” was the rejoinder. “ Well you will have to remain in custody,” said the Magistrate. Both men were then remanded. Charles Afaurice Collins was charged with breaking and entering the Auckland Meat Company’s shop and stealing 10s lOd in money. There was also a charge of breaking and entering the shop of Peter Floyd and stealing goods of a total value of £3 10s 6d, and another of failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation. Collins was remanded until January 24. J
