CH’CH REGATTA WILL BE HELD AT KAIRAKI.
Matters In connection with the Christchurch regatta were discussed at a meeting of the Regatta Club executive last evening, when Mr F. D. Kesteven presided over a full attendance. The chairman stated that the meeting was called with the object of discussing the next regatta, the course and so on. There were various courses* in mind, Kairaki, the Avon, Corsair Bay and others. A letter was read from the Avon Rowing Club asking that Corsair Bay be decided on in preference to Kairaki. ** Corsair Bay is affected by every wind.” said Mr R. R. Nightingale, " with the exception of a light nor’In reply to a question, Mr Kesteven said that Bake Forsyth had not been definitely turned down. Mr Nightingale supported th% Kairaki course, which, he said, was the least affected by weather of all the possible courses. TTe thought that it would be easy enough to get a straight mile course there and there was very little Mr G. H. Hobbs referred to the question of gate receipts. If they could get more people at Kairaki. then he would plump for that course. Some members expressed the belief that there would be practically no gate After some further discussion, Mr G. IT. Hobbs moved that the Christchurch regatta be held this year at Kairak i. Mr R. J. Hobbs read a communication from the Railway Department in connection with the running of a special train to Lake Forsyth. The Department said that if a train wqre run a guarantee would not be required, but the club would have to pay half the cost of advertising, do all they could to “boost” the regatta, and Induce b.s many people as j r.ssible to travel by the train Instead of in cars. After some further discussion, the motion was *v:t to the meeting and carried. The chairmen suggested that the date of the regatta should he February lf». Mr R. ,T. Hobbs moved to that effect, and the motion was carried. Mr W. Duggan moved that the programme of events as arranged for last year be passed for this year’s regatta, with the alteration that the senior fours be rowed in clinker boats. The motion was defeated, an amend- . ment by Mr Cowlishaw that the programme be passed without the alteration being carried. The prize money also Will he the same ns last year’s.
