N.Z. CYCLING UNION OPENS CONFERENCE.
DOMINION DELEGATES GATHER AT TAUMARUNUI TO DISCUSS SPORT. Per Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, January 14. The New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union and Axemen’s Association’s- twentieth annual conference opened here to-day, delegates attending from all parts of the Dominioix The president, Mr J. A. Hansen, -was in the chair. The delegates were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr G. E, ManAn executive meeting was then held, at which formal business was transacted, and the delegates afterwards met in conference. A vote of condolence was carried with the relatives of Mr A. Curry, Blenheim, who had given the union valuable assistance during his lifetime. The president, in his report, stated that Mr J. E. Richardson, of Te Akau, had been appointed official handicapper for the North Island. Mr M. Dowling was available for a similar position for Southland, and Mr K. Fitzgerald for the West Coast. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £lB9 14s Id. Clubs’ affiliations showed an increase of 13 and registrations of 122, the increase being principally in the Auckland, province, where there
were now 20 clubs affiliated and 261 registered competitors. The prospects for the coming season were good, and the championship meeting would be held at Taumarunui in March next.
