TARIFF COMMISSION WILL PAY TWO VISITS TO CHRISTCHURCH.
i. . -rial to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, January 14. It was officially announced to-day that the Customs Tariff Revision Commission will commence its sittings at Auckland at 11 a.m. on Tuesday next. The report has to be furnished to the Minister of Customs by June 30 next. The Commission will remain a week or two in the northern city and then proceed to Christchurch. After taking evidence in the latter place it will move on to Dunedin and possibly Invercargill. On the way back to Wellington a second visit will be paid to Christchurch to take any additional evidence that might not have been received during the prior visit. The concluding ..vidence will be taken at Wellington. The order in which witnesses will furnish their evidence at the places to be visited is a matter of arrangement between the witnesses and the respective collectors of Customs. Mr G. Craig, Controller of Customs and chairman of the Commission, will leave for Auckland on Monday.
