HOSPITAL CONGEST.
Despite the inclement weather on Wednesday 'last there was a large attendance., at the concert organised for the purpose of augmenting the fund that is being raised for the purpose of building a cottage hospital in Te Puke. The programme presented was one of great variety, and appeared to give general satisfaction, although some little disap* pointment was expressed that k few more vocal items were not included. The only singers were Mrs Tod, who was twice recalled, and Messrs Sergeant and Sealy, who rendered a humorous duet. "Mrs Jarley's Waxworks," were a source of great amusement, Mrs Ford, taking the part of Mrs Jarley, the loquacious showwoman admirably. Mr Ford, also, as the handy man, whose business it was to oil and wind up the various figures, contributed very materially to the amusement of those presnt. The instrumen alists were Miss B. Snodgrass, who opened the entertainment with a solo, and whose finished playing is always appreciated, Misses Hobbs and Ellis (duet), Graham and Wilson (duet), and Wilson (solo). Miss Samuels (Tauranga) Rev. t Richards (Tauranga) and Mr Evand Carr (Paengaroa) contibuted recitations, and each of the performers was encored. During an interlude the Rev. Hobbs alluded to the necessity that existed for a hospital in Te Puke, and a motion was carried by those present that the Town Board be asked to set up a committee to supervise details in connection with the movement. We must not omit to mention that Mr T. E. Palmer presided in his usual happy manner, nor that Mr J.,Wilson was responsible for the general arrangements. The performance closed with the playing of the National Anthem by Miss Snodgrass.
