STRIKE LEADER SENTENCED TO TAREE MONTHS

Wellington, This Day # Mr Riddell, S.M. gave reserved judgment yesterday in the case of W. T. Young (president of the Federation of Labor) on a charge of inciting to violence. He convicted defendant and sentenced him to three months' imprisonment. Young was also ordered to find sureties to keep the peace for twelve months in a personal bond of £250, and two other sureties of £250 each. Notice of appeal was lodged on the ground that the decision was erroneous in point of law. The Magistrate fixed bail, pending the appeal, in one personal surety of £150 and two sureties of £75 each. Other cases against strike leaders were adjourned till the afternoon.
