CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Te Puke Chamber of-Commerce was- held in. the Mission Hall on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Roberts (President) occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Marine Department to the effect that a special Bill would have to be introduced before the Te Puke Town district could obtain representation on the Harbor Board. HThe meeting resolved that the matter be left in abeyance for the present,

It was resolved that the Chamber affiliate with the Bay of Plenty Railway League. The Paengaroa Branch of the Farmers' Union wrote, requesting the co-operation of the Chamber iri urging on the Government the necessity for pushing on with the improvement of the wharf at the Mount.--It was resolved to reply that a resolution had been previously passed in the direction indicated, and also that the Chamber would be pleased to act in conjunction with the Union in all matters affecting the welfare of the district.

Mr McNaughton pointed out that nothing whatever had yet been done in regard to enlarging the wharf. At present manures were taken to Tauranga, and then sent across to the Mount by the Wave. This meant double handling and an extra leakage. He suggested that the United Bay of Plenty Railway League be asked to support the construction of the Mount wharf.

It was resolved to adopt the suggestion, and the Secretary was authorised to write to the League; and solicit its co-opera-tion.

. The meeting resolved that the Minister for Public Works be thanked for the grant of £500 for a Courthouse, and also that he be asked to have the money expended as soon as possible.

The question of additional accommodation at No. 1 School was raised, Mr Arkle mentioning that the School Committee at its meeting the previous evening, had decided to again write to the Education Board regarding the necessity for enlargement. -No action was taken..

Mr Aride moved that the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland, be written to and asked that the sale of the.Autoroa sections be held in Te Puke, 'and that details of the sale be published in the Te Puke Times. He pointed out that a Hall was available, and that local residents were more interested in the sale than others.

1 Those present concurred with Mr Arkle's remarks, and the motion was carried unanimously.

On the motion of the Chairman the meeting passed a vote of con : dolence with Mr Robt, King in his recent bereavement.

This concluded the business.
