TOWN BOARD.

The Town Board met last evening, there being present Messrs T. E. Palmer (Chairman), T, P. Lemon;, R. ' King, R. Tees, L. Bayliss, and,A: Montgomery. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Lemon reported that the County Supervisor had authorised that the holes in the main road, referred to at the last meeting of the Board, be filled in. , Ways and Means.
The question of striking a rate to liquidate expenses already incurred, and for general purposes, was discussed.
Mr Montgomery suggested that a small rate of Id in the £be struck. This, with the license fee of £40, previously received by the Board, would total £193, which should be sufficient for the. Board to carry on with until March next, '
Mr Lemon said that the sooner they obtained a severance from the County the better. , The Chairman thought that they might as well strike/a rate of lid whiln they were about it. Mr Bayliss said even if the rate was struck, they would not be able to collect the : whole of the amount at once.
It was pointed out by the Clerk that before striking any rate an estimate of the proposed expenditure would have to be prepared. Mr King moved that a subcommittee consisting of the Chairman and-Messrs Lemon and Bayliss prepare.a' statement of the proposed expenditure as between Aprils 1913,;. and April, 1914, to meet the requirements of section 36 of the Town Boards Act, 1908, and report to the next meeting of the Board, The motion seconded and carried. ,
Water Scheme, • The rating problem in connection with the proposed water scheme then came up'for consideration. j Daring the discussion which followed it was-pointed put that the whole of the ratepayers would be liable for the interest, the amount of which, however, 1 would be reduced by the revenue derived from consumers, .
