HARBOR BOARD

. The adjourned meeting of the Tauranga Harbor Board was held in the Board's'office on Tuesday. Present f Messrs D. Grant, C. LallyV H. J. Gill, T. Stuart, J. C. Adams, G. V. Stewart, H. Southey and Colonel Ward (in the chair). Hand Cranes Mr H. B. Burnett, Secretary of the Auckland Harbor Board, wrote in reference to the sale of hand cranes, and stated the would be £20 each. - It was decided to thank the Auckland ' Harbor. Board for their letter, and to inform them that the Tauranga Harbor Board has already been suited. Control of Foreshore It was decided on the motion of Mr Grant, seconded by Mr Lally, that the Marine Department be iwritfcen to on the subject of removal of dead animals from the foreshore, and asked what steps it intends taking as the. foreshore is still under its control. \ A Wairoa. Staging Messrs Gamman's Limited, forward a plan of a piece of land they have leased frorn Mr li. P. Clarke on the Wair'oa River,' on whish they wish tq build-a small staging to facilitate the unloading of their timber. The firm stated they trusted that the Board could see its way t<? recommend to the Marine Department that the work be done. Mr Stewart moved-That the application be supported by the Board. Seconded by Mr Grant 1 and carried, - , ; ; Dredges Mr Lowe submitted a report re dredges. He stated that he had interviewed Mr Hamer, Engineer to the Auckland Harbor Board, who said that the, only dredge available for hire is a suction dredge, capacity about 500 tons per day. The hire of this would be £9 or, £10 per day; cost of bringing it down and working to be borne by the Tauranga Board. There is also a Priestman grab dredge, with capacity up to 250 tons, according to the nature of material dealt with. Mr Hamer was prepared to 'hire this at £2 per day ,or sell outright for £700., JVr Hamer could supply crewsat actual cost. This and all ;i incidental expenses, such as insurance, etc., to be extra.. Mr 11. H. Adam's, of Thames,, had two bucket dredges, used for dealing with riverbed material He was willing to sell one for £2000, but would not think, of -hiring out. ' Mr Lnve said lie was assured there was no other bucket dredge available in. this part of the country, nor could he hear of any from further inquiry IVfr - Adams moved—That, the Secretary be thanked for his services and that the report be filed. Seconded by Mr Stewart and carried.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee's report was read as follows; "Your Committee mnt on Thursday, 13th inst„ and in view of the resumption of the steamer service being likely the following day and the continuance of the strike your Committee decided to have notices printed, to the effect that no person had a right to be on the wharves except on business, and instructed the acting wharfinger to have such notices posted at the shore end of the Town Wharf and to strictly enforce the conditions of by-laws 44 and 45. Happily no trouble arose in connection with the boat and work on v tlie wharves has sine,e been proceeding qiiietly and regularly. Owing to .the illness of the Chairman, and h?.having expressed a desire that Colonel Ward should act for him in connection with an interview with Mr i\annah. Public Works Engineer, your Committee, minus Mr Davidson, met on Saturday morning, and confirmed the appointment of Colonel Ward to act for the Chairman at the above-men-tioned interview."

Mr Grant moved—That the action of the executive be approved Seconded by Mr Stewart and carried.
