MARITIME STRIKE.
MAYOR OF AUCKLAND'S OPINION. Auckland,' Thursday. An attempt is to be made by the shipping companies to maintain intercolonial steamer accom-modation-though a large number of vessels ordinarily employed in the services are inactive owing to the dislocation of trade. In reviewing the position the Mayor said that he desired to deprecate any unnecessary scare about the probable upsetting of maritime affairs. • 'As a matter of fact," said Mr Parr, "this port sends very little cargo to Australia, the high tariff of the Commonwealth preventing the markets from being attractive to our products. Most of us would prefer to see the Northern Company's flent running than to see the Maheno carrying out her regular trip if either service is to be dislocated.
