STRIKE ITEMS.
The Wellington Wholesale Storemen's Union decided not to respond to the call of the Federation of Labor to strike. The new waterside union in Wellington has decided to join the New Zealand Watersiders Workers' Federation, which is registered under the Arbitration Act and is not connected with the Federation of Labour. The hotel employees in Wellington flatly refused to strike. Mr George Elliott, President of the Auckland Exhibition, is hopeful that it will not be necessary to postpone the date of the opening ceremony. Messrs W. H. Poole, N. Quirke, A. Brown, A. E. Newsham, E. A. Gumbley, and W. Thompson have been sworn in as special constables at Tauranga. SEAMEN FOR COASTERS. Auckland, Thursday. Coastal traffic controlled by the Northern Company is in full swing again. The officials report that they have now secured a full complement of men for all the vessels in their fleet. In most cases, it is stated, men with seamen's tickets have come forward for employ men t. Some of those who were paid off have rejoined, and there is a small percentage of "specials," signed on in a temporary capacity.
